Well being induced is not that bad. All doctors are different so it may be different for you. Also if you decide to take the epidural or to not take it, it will change your birth. Not only that but everyones body is different. When they induced me they brought me in the night before to put some cervadil (gel that goes on your cervix to soften it) on overnight to see if that would kick labor into gear. Well that night I slept fine and the next morning I woke up and guess what.... still no baby. So the next morning at about 8 AM they started the pitocin and broke my water. Which by the way does hurt a little. Then about an hour later I started to feel the contractions. At about 1 PM I decided to get an epidural because the pain got real bad and after that I got some good sleep and then about 5:30 I started pushing and at 5:57 my son was born. The epidural itself doesnt hurt too bad, my doctor numbed the area around where she put the needle in so I never even felt it. As far as the actual induction that doesnt hurt they will just put it in your IV so you have nothing to worry about. Well good luck. Also congrats on your new addition.

Everyone is different; however, I will let you know about my experience. I had pre-eclapsia with my daughter so I spent a week in the hospital and was induced 3 weeks early. When they did this they inserted what looked just like a pill and broke my water. I had a very good doctor who let me know when I was ready for an epidural if I wanted one. I took it, and up till then my pain was less than my normal cramps I experienced every month. If you are really worried about this you should speak with your doctor. When I received my epidural I didn't feel anything, not saying you wont. Like I said every person is different. From start to finish my daughter was born eight hours later. I know this sounds like a long time, but with the epidural I was completely comfortable. Try not to stress too much about this procedure as this can cause some problems. Just remember you child will not be the first this hospital has delivered and you are in good hands.

They will give you an IV with Pitocin to induce your labor-but being induced is not good for the baby unless your water has broken and you stil have not gone into labor within 24-48 hours-the baby will be at risk for infection, but if the labor is coming along, then you will be fine-also, being induced is not recommended until at least 36 weeks, which is full term, but it is good to at least wait until 38-40 weeks if at all possible-if the pregnancy is going well and mother and baby are doing fine, they let the baby have as much time as possible in the womb-my fiance was a month over due and his mother had to have an emergency c-section because they miscalculated his due date-so you and your doctor really need to be on top of things-and yes, it does hurt a little to have an epidural, but the small amount of pain is well worth it to have no pain during labor/delivery-just make sure whoever gives it to you knows what they are doing-I know some people who have the upper half of their body go numb instead of the lower half, so be careful, ask a lot of questions, and talk to your doctor-Good Luck!

I was 10 days over due with my first one. They used Pitocin to help start my labor but you may not need it. They may just break your water and your body will go on from there on it's own. Yes, it does hurt. Pitocin causes contractions that are stronger than the initial ones when labor starts by itself. As for me, it took 16 hours (including 3 solid hours of pushing) and my daughter still had to be pulled out with forceps. But everyone is different. You'll just have to wait and see. Yes, the epidural hurts. It is very uncomfortable but believe me, labor hurts worse. A lot worse. Don't be scared, Mommy. It won't last forever and when it's over, you'll have a new baby.

you need to calm down....you should of taken classes or read some books.....its not cozy getting an epidural....they will give you an Iv with a drug forget the name it starts with a "P" and it could take awhile to have your first baby....took me over 22 hours and i ended up with a c-section....my son was 10 pounds i was nothing but baby....He turned 3 on the 6th....Its normal to be scared....They were going to induce me but they stripped my membranes first and that night i went into labor and my water broke, have the tried that with you? Also sex might work....its really really uncomfy at this stage in the pregnancy i know but i would try it some chemical in the sperm helps open your cervix good luck sweetie

when i had my son induced 11 yrs ago, they used Petosin to induce labor-thru the IV. for me it took 12 & 1/2 hours of labor till he was born. It should not hurt to get the epidural-they numb you first-if anything, you might feel the prick of a needle to start. You will monitored by a nurse thru the whole thing. they will take you step by step thru the whole thing Congratulations! Have a happy, healthy baby!

They will give you a drug called petocin in an IV. (i'm not sure if I spelled it right) Than once you progress enough they will give you the epidural. I haven't had one myself but I heard that they aren't exactly comfortable to get but aren't really painful either.. They say that petocin does slow labor down but theres no way to tell how long afterward your baby will be born..
Relax and enjoy the quiet time you have.. you could go into labor all by yourself before you have to be induced..

Induced labor with petocin is a hard and fast labor. Try to get yourself into labor to save the pain! Castor oil worked wonders with my mother! She always carried her babies till overdue. She took castor oil and went for some long walks. She went into labor within a few days. It's a folk remedy, but I've seen it work.
FYI: If you do it, get the lemon flavored oil, it tastes a little better. And, stay within access to a bathroom, cause it's the cleanin' out that supposedly starts the labor.

you will be fine. I was scared to death with my first child, not knowing what to expect. You can read what might and will happen, but everyone is different. They will use potocin (sp?)through an IV and maybe break your water, but soon you will have a beautiful little baby in your arms and you will not even remember all the worries or the pain. Good Luck Sweetie and Congratulations. You will be here answering question for other scared "mommas to be before long".

Well the honest answer would be pitocin, but the real true answer would be pitocin, hours of labor, epidural, and then a c/s for failure to progress. Being over due is not a bad thing. Good Luck!
