It was a Honda CB400 - aged and worn out and constantly needing tinkering, but it taught me a lot about mechanics, and let me learn the riding reflexes I needed without killing myself.
My second bike was a Yamaha SR500 single-cylinder streetbike that was a rocket. It weighed nothing and had tons of torque. Not the fastest over distance (top end was about 90), but 0-60 in like 3 seconds!
Both bought used.

My first bike was a Honda S90, followed by a Yamaha 250DT, next a Honda 550K , then a Honda 750 SS, followed by a Honda 750K with a 836 kit , then the last bike was a Honda 900SS.. sold the Honda and hung up my helmet... them little old ladies will run over your ice if you ain't careful... If I ever buy another bike if will be a Harley..... remember if it looks like a Harley and sounds like a Harley but it ain't a Harley...its a piece of shi--..:)

If you're talking motorcycles, that would be my Honda CX500. It's somewhat beat up, and sometimes I wish I'd started with a lighter bike. But it works well enough whether I'm running short errands or taking long highway trips.

I bought a Yamaha YZF600R. Great bike! I upgraded to an R1 four years later and love that too. I still wish I hadn't sold that 600 - I would still like to ride it every now and then.
