I am retired USN and have been living in Iloilo City the past 4 years. It's located in the central part of the Philippines on the island of Panay (region 6). The cost of living here is about 25% less than the big cities like Manila or Cebu. There are 5 major shopping malls, 3 private hospitals, 2 golf courses and many nice resorts and resturants. We have CATV, Internet and supermarkets that sell a variety of imported food.

Bacolod City on the neighbouring island of ****** is also a nice place to live.

The best way is to take a trip over and see it all for yourself firsthand. There are many nice places outside the major cities that are good places to live. Pension houses are a good place to stay at reasonable weekly rates while you check out differant places. Your retired now and have plenty of time to see differant places before deciding which area is best for you.

It's not just the fact that by living over here your dollar goes further. I think the people are allot more friendly and laid back. It's a complete lifestyle change from the stressed out hurry up lifestyle in the states.

I assume that is in US$ or english pound?

Cebu is overrated I think, but if you like the sea and sand and well, girls (pardon me kabayans but it's the bloody truth) and island life, then it is good, but probably has gotten more expensive. Tagaytay and nearby towns in Batangas could be an alternative, fair weather, with mountains and hills and the sea nearby, giving you different options. It is also near Manila about an hour or so where you can get medical services if needed. There are good places in the south, but only if you fancy being in danger most of the time. I think at your age, you don't need that kind of excitement.

If you want the mountain life, head to the northern part, like Baguio City, the summer capital where the weather is nice, though sometimes wet and cloudy, throughout the year. The people are nice, used to foreigners, particularly the white people and almost everybody, even the street vendor speaks good English. Or you can also go to La Union where there are good beaches and the house rental would not be that much. Being a northerner, I can assure you that people here are nicer, no offense meant (peace!).

Wherever you go, make sure that you are dealing with good people and not those who'll gonna milk you dry or cheat you or even put you in grave danger. In every forest, there are snakes, so be aware and exercise the necessary precautions. Deal with legitimate agencies, even if more pricey and make sure that somebody from your home country knows where you settle, not unless you are escaping from them.

Good hunting and good luck.

I will tell you bits about Davao City. You might want to have as many options and choices of places to choose from.

No storms and typhoons, no heavy flooding, no volcanic eruptions, very minimal earthquake activity, no landslides and mudslides

Nice weather, fair sunshine and rain, lots of delicious and healthy exotic fruits, home of the majestic Philippine Eagle, rich tribal and ethnic cultures, the world-famous Kadayawan Festival.........

So, log on!

it depends on what place you like. If you want to retire in a peaceful place with lots of eco tourism sites then you can try camiguin, sorsogon city, tagaytay, bohol etc... If you want to stay in a bigger city you cn stay in cebu, palawan or davao. If you prefer colder environment, try baguio city. there are lots of places to choose from, depending on where you like or where your condition is suited. Check out this place in cebu.. Malapascua Island. a great diving spot. there are other cool places in this site.
