The most common cause is lack of calcium, especially if you are young, growing or very active. Calcium is used to move every muscle in the body from the heart to the eyelid and everything else. So, start there. We need 1200 mg. per day if we are normal growing and active. So, we get some through foods like yogurt, milk, cheese, broccoli and greens. But, if we don't get other nutrients like magnesium, vitamin D and boron we don't absorb all that calcium. So, I believe in taking supplements with these things in them....at least 900 to 10000 mg. calcium mixed with other minerals mentioned and get the rest through food. Try this for a few weeks and then see a Dr. if they persist. Good Luck!

In muscle pain it is usually due to the overabundance of oxygen which releases lactic acid. The mitochondria are working overtime when there has't been much circulation to a particular muscle in that capacity on a regular basis. So, lactic acid is produced with the extra production of oxygen.

I have same problem due to low levels of potassium and magnesium. You should check with your doctor to check your mineral levels. My leg cramps would spasm and wake me up.

Lots and lots of reasons. Try eating bananas and other potassium rich foods, it helps. If it keeps up see a doctor (of course).
