"The 1980's were a strange time in American feature films. Eddie Murphy was a breakout star from Saturday Night Live who became a true movie star. Anthony Michael Hall started out as the nerdy son in Vacation, played the nerdy wannabe boyfriend for Molly Ringwold in films like the Breakfast Club and 16 Candles, joined Saturday Night Live for a season, and finally played the king of all Nerds, Bill Gates, in 1999's Pirates of Silicon Valley. Robin Williams also started to shine.
Star Wars redefined the sequel. Star Trek II, Superman II and Rocky III perfected the sequel, then fell apart as the sequel number approached half a dozen... "

The John Hughes movies--Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles and particularly Breakfast Club. That generation of kids--and their angst--was perfectly preserved on the big screen. They are timeless classics.

TRON brought about computer graphics to movies. If TRON hadnt been made, there are a lot of things that may never have been made.

Indiana Jones gave us the action of the 80's

Star Wars gave us half the sci fi of the 80's

Batman could add to that

comedy........

probably something by john hughes (breakfast club, sixteen candles, pretty in pink, weird science) all those films are pretty 80s. Labyrinth was pretty 80s and so was the Goonies. Purple Rain maybe?

for me it was st elmos fire (rob lowe and emilo estevez was hot) and of course the breakfast club lol. war games was another good one but one that influenced my dinky country hometown was desperately seeking susan with madonna that really made her career go through the roof
