Adults may have delayed emotional development, poor self-esteem, poor self-image, depression, they may themselves be abusers, gender confusion, substance abuse, inability to form relationships, denial & suppression. That's for starters. And I wouldn't call these "side effects".

There is a substantial body of research linking child sexual abuse with a number of mental health disorders, such as anxiety, eating disorders, and substance abuse. Many abuse victims show classic signs of post-traumatic stress disorders, such as trouble sleeping, nightmares, or an inability to remember the abuse. There are also physical symptoms, including headaches and obesity.
Families where sexual abuse is common are more likely to foster physical and emotional abuse as well. For example, one study found that women who'd been sexually abused were five times more likely to have been physically abused and three times as likely to also report emotional deprivation. They may feel isolated because they don't have a parent to turn to or seek help from when they need it.
What this means is that in some cases, researchers can't isolate sexual abuse from the dysfunctional family life that comes with it. What we know for sure, though, is that early abuse, whether sexual, physical or emotional, is a stressor that leaves children vulnerable to both mental illness and physical ailments that have a psychological component.

They run the gamut. So, being so vague with your question makes it hard to answer. Some abused children do not have many symptoms while others have it all and no one can predict the ones who won't or the ones who will. A parent abusing a child should be sexually castrated, in my opinion.

even as my little ones have their verify up on the pediatrician each 365 days- the Dr wil continuously verify the own area and in view that the try this area of the examination, he/she will be in a position to assert to my new child " Now you know that the surely persons that are allowed or which have permission to objective it is are those that could be checking for some discomfort or sore area that you informed them about desiring checked" or each so often he will say to my son that " Iknow it is embarrassing yet Dr's are truly the surely one which could be touching you the following and it truly is surely because i want to verify each thing is wholesome" (may no longer be the precise words...yet you get the idea) the way they state it is in a questioning way- so the youngsters may make a remark if somebody else has touched them inappropriately.

some suffer from manic depression with violent episodes....its very hard for them to trust ppl or to get close to them..some may not like to be touched or have sexual relations...they have nightmares n wake up hysterical n crying n they r ashamed to tell u what the dream was about because they was actually reliving what happened to them in real life.the so-called experts say go to counseling n seek help.... it does help to a certain extent...it doesnt stop the nightmares or the flashbacks,it gives u the tools to deal with them better than before...sometimes that doesnt help n ppl have to be medicated but thats another story....
