There are no special foods to guarantee that your child will have a high IQ. Its all hogwash. To prevent brain retardation though among newborns make sure she has the recommended daily dosage of IODINE which helps and establishes brain growth while still in the womb.

She can also try multivitamins but be careful with them. Some vitamins can be harmful for the unborn baby in large doses (like vitamin a). Go to the doctor and he can recommend a supplement.

There's nothing you can do that is scientifically proven to make the child more intelligent. Personally, I think it helps to talk to the child while it is in the womb. The best thing your wife can do is to eat healthy (fruit, veggies, whole grains, etc) and stay away from overly processed foods. Obviously, she should not smoke or drink alcohol and she should stay away from places with lots of smoke. She should try to exercise, get lots of rest, and relax!
Congratulations to you both!

Just another person who can't just hope for a healthy child. With all the children born with birth defects, this is a silly question and turns me off.

My brother-in-law was born mentally retarded and he lives with us. Thank God he is able to walk, feed/clothe himself, needs some help in the bathroom.

Just pray for health child.

Oh Jeez, just have her swing a dead chicken over her head, for cryin' out loud! As long as she eats healthy, gets her exercise and has an uneventful pregancy & delivery and if you both do your part to stimulate the child's mind, he/she will reach his/her full intellectual potential. The potential is something you can't change and you can't increase.
