Isnt this what our country was founded on....? The people get to chose their government, and change it if they dont like it...? What has happened to this belief?

It has deteriorated with both sides failing.

My theory as far as the people are concerned, is that this is what happens in a capitalist society. I'm not trying to sound anti-capitalism but I do think this is evident when you examine the reasons why.

In a capitalist society, ppl are taught from birth that success evolves around self. Everything we do in this type of society is for the benefit of self or the benefit of our immediate families. In a more socialist society, the involvement is around community.

So, I am saying that for the ppl by the ppl... I don't think ppl care what the government does as long as they get their rewards.

As far as the government, it has become apparent that the republican party has one goal... to turn us into a purely capitalist society losing FDR's New Deal social programs in order to turn society into slaves for corporate America.

The concept didn't change, the world just got smaller. 200 years ago, 95% of people never made it more than 100 miles from their house in their lifetime. The local politics of your mayor/governor/alderman (probably the guy with the farm next to yours) had the most effect on how gov't influenced your life. Now we jet all over the world and everything Bush, Blair, and the president of Chad says is heard all over the world. Don't be fooled: the ruling class has never been any different--same guys, different names. They just affect your life more when they get elected.

Don't forget about who "people" were back then either. The people in your "of, by and for the people" routine are white guys who own land. Who gets elevated to major officers in America? White guys who own land. What's changed? The concept didn't change, we just changed the definition of people along the way, so it looks different.

In a sense it is still by the people for the people. Just not the majority of the people. You just have to be the right people. Rich, religious, corporation, lobbyist, or government official.

The fascist rich have taken it over, though there are still lots of naive simpletons who think it's still there. The question is, who's going to wake them up?!
