Worked for them.
Visited them.
Travelled parts of it.
Came away with these impressions.
Plus
In the eight-ten states visited it had the best standard of public cleanliness except Germany in 1970.
The American Flag seemed an unnecessary public display at first but then I realised it was the common tool used to unite so many nationalities.
Socially the people are extremely friendly and helpful.
Queried
Their casual reference to God and the use of his image as if he belongs to the U.S.A.
It is a foreign country for Brits without the knowledge that their customs are very different.
The sheep element, where without being acquiescent to the accepted norm, you are an outsider.
The eyes of the black American shine brighter in the south than they do in Detroit.
Don't like.
Superiority of Public Officials.
The Class System. Yes it is different to the U.K. but it is there in spades.
The division between State and Federal responsibilities.
Overall
I think it is a good place to be born in if you are born in the right State.
Personally nothing would induce me to live there but I would be willing to help any American and some of their political greats like Clinton.
The world would be very much worse without them.
Dare I say it?

God bless most Americans

How do I feel about America, a great place with great people I imagine, but having never had the chance to visit her shores as yet I can't say how beautiful it is until I have, but like you I am as proud of my own country too and your right red, white and blue from sea to shining sea.

Ignorant, arrogant, insular. Her generosity always comes with a heavy price. Her History is much less amazing than much of the worlds. Her patriotism is blind. The country is sinking fast. Her dollar has fallen against almost all. Her fuel costs have risen higher than most. The debt is the highest in the world and so on. Just this week your own country found there was no link in Iraq what so ever to terrorism before you invaded. GUESS that makes you WRONG and yet many in your country think there was because Bush told you so. He also said they had WMD and was wrong again.

I like America and on the whole I like Americans - they can be sweet, friendly, open-hearted and very charming, although occasionally I feel embarrassed for some of them when they make it so clear they think they are better than anyone else - it's deluded and tragic. Amazing history???? My DEAR!!! Compared to others you have only just begun!

And who was it who said "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel"?

i feel as with america like every other nation has its good and bad points. the bad being bush, bush administration and americans who claim they are better than every other nation. which is bollocks because there is no such thing as the best country in the world. i am glad that more and more americans are coming to their senses realising what a egomaniac george bush is, as public opinion of this **** indicates that he and his adminstration are a bunch of tossers.

i just wished however that america would realise that they are not better at everything and believe in their own hype and if it does, then the perception the world currently has of america would change for the better.

I am proud to be an American, and extremely proud of the history of American, but kinda worried about the future of it, for being a free country there's an awful lot of laws telling me what I can and cant' do. Such as if I buy and operate a business who the hell are they to tell me I can't smoke in it. Why is it up to them for me to wear a seat belt. I can't have a lighter on a plane, now even toothpaste. Honey if I'm on a plane and a terrorist tries to overtake it he's gotta kill me first cause that son of a @#$%^ isn't going anywhere while I'm alive that's for sure. Why do you ask anyway?

I am so thankful that God planted me in the USA!! Also in the state of Texas! We have a great country. Why else would so many keep sneaking in or being invited to enter after they have completed their paperwork! Our generousity is huge.Sometimes we overlook our own needy and need to do better there and in securing the borders and ports of entry. We also need to uphold our laws more strictly and automatically send all illegals home and tell them to file the paperwork or next time they are caught they will go to prison. And/or go to their own country's prison or have their country pay for their stay in our prisons! Boy that would get some country's attention if they had to pay us back for as much per criminal as America squanders on them.We spend more on prisoners than on students on ave each yr. and some states are worse than others. Our great country does need to get a grip on some things before it is way too late! I love the USA!!! I have the freedom to love it and to know that I can say my opinions about what I feel needs to change!
