You can go to Symmantec ( I may have spelled it wrong) and download a trial of Norton antivirus. Doesn't get anymore trustworthy than that.
Who do you have as an internet servie provider. Many companies give free antivirus software to their customers ie AOL and Optimum ONline

AVG Anit-virus is both trustable and free! I have been using it for years.
There are many other options as well, here is an entire page of free anti-virus software - http://www.malwaresolutions.com/tools_anti_virus.html

The best virus scan is an online virus scan that is updated everyday. These won't remove the viruses, but they are the best programs for detecting them. I recommend panda (link): http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan
For download use Ewido: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Make sure to get the updates when you first start the program. Then run a full scan in safe mode. To get to safe mode, restart your computer and continually tap f8 while it starts up.
Ewido has the combined power of many of these programs people have been making entire lists of.

2.Avast(9.3/10):

4.Comodo(9.4/10)

5.Clamwin(9/10)
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/clamwin/clamwin-0.88.4-setup.exe?use_mirror=mesh
All of these are excellent and reliable. Go for any one and stay protected!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beer_fats has only given web addresses of antispyware not antivirus. He must be really lazy. I have seen this same answer on about 50 -100 questions. Anyway , if you do want an antispyware I would recommend the following:
1.Ewido:-http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/ewido-setup_4.0.0.172c.exe
2.AdAware:-http://dw.com.com/redir?pid=10399602&merid=69274&mfgid=69274
For firewalls go for:
1.ZoneAlarm:-http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/1001_cnet_zdnet/zlsSetup_65_737_000_en.exe
OR 2.Comodo Firewall:-http://www.personalfirewall.trustix.com/license_registration.html
Hope I have helped you.

macafee has a free 30/60 day trial of their software. I got it, then purchased it. very safe.
you may also check with your internet service provider, many of them now offer free virus software now for download. for example, if you have comcast internet, you can go to their main page, log in with your info, you can get numerous free downloads, including free virus software. check with you provider and see what they offer.

hi, perhaps you can try norton to remove the virus and protect your PC, but you need to pay for the software.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:
