I watched it hoping that Tom Cruise would get eaten but I kinda enjoyed it anyway. Spielberg is a phenomenal director even if I wish he had someone else in that role. Dakota Fanning was really good, she managed to make "Rachel" believable and very different from all the other precocious kid roles that she plays.

SPOILER>>>>>
The ending was a bit cheesy though. The street was completely empty and the entire family is standing at the door at the precise moment Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning arrive? Oh, and Robbie who the audience was cheering as he ran TOWARDS what seemed to be sure death is not only alive and well but wearing exactly what he was last seen in? How did he get there before TC and DF? Before you realize that you don't really care, the voiceover comes on saying something that I think only makes sense if you've seen or read the original war of the worlds.

It's pretty good. Have you seen the original? Of not I suggest it for the story because it is based on facts. If you don't know already, the Amityville Horror is supposedly based off a true story. The 2005 version has a bit mor of the 'boo' factor in it. A little more gore and it's a little more scary. While it didn't scare me, I suggest watching it =]

I must say that I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Very well updated while following Welles original manuscript. And by the way I'm not a Tom Cruise fan by a long shot, But I am unbiased in my opinion of movies.

All I could see what Tom jumping up and down on Oprah's couch and insulting Brooke Shields about something he knows absolutely nothing about. In other words, I simply cannot bring myself to watch another Tom Cruise movie without puking.

My only objection about the movie...is that the Aliens were supposed to be soooo advanced and it took a 1000 years of planning to execute this attack....but these highly advance race of ETs didn't bring a microbiologist with them. Come ON! Coming down to our planet causing all this trouble and to screw it up themselves. Don't let us (humans) get the technology to reach their planet...because we'll drop the POX blanets on their home world and take over.

Not even worth renting..Bad acting, bad effects, It didn't have any underlying meaning. It overall sucked.

Rent the "War of the Worlds" from the 1950's. It alot better.

Don't you think that Dakota Fanning kinda over did the screaming just a bit too much? I couldn't handle that! I was sitting in my seat saying "shaddap please!!!!!". A little overacting there for Dakota.
