i have a black fungus on my mimosa tree.had the same thing on red tip photinia & lost 2. what is it?
how do i get rid of it?

G'day mate, the black fungus may be "sooty mould". The treatment for this when I worked in nurseries a few years ago was white oil. Here in Australia white oil was readily available from nursery supplies, remember to read the safety instructions.

Taking a clipping to the local nursery is a good idea. If they don't have an answer, try taking the clipping to the county Extension Agent. They are trained to know about plants and animals, etc. If they don't have the answer, I'm sure they can find out, or point you in the right direction so you can find out for yourself.
