Not in general. Biogas is a mixture of methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and nitrogen. This mixture generally has a caloric value of less than 20 MJ/m^3 whereas LPG generally has a caloric value above 90 MJ/m^3. Biogas and LPG could both be used in a heating application. You would just use a larger volume of biogas.

It is used as an alternative for LP in India. But it does not produce the same amount of energy per mole as LP gas. But as biogas is relatively vary cheap, using lots of it(for a lower price than LP) can solve the problem.
