Alan Scott was the original GL, I know of no one ever claiming he was the best? Hal Jordan, to many, is claimed to be the best GL around. Personnally I have always been a fan of Kyle Rayner. If you dont like Justice Society, I would not bother reading the comics that feature him as they are from the 40s and 50s. If you think that Justice Society is weird then you would really not like the original GLs comics.

Alan Scott and the other JSAers either had their own title or at least their own features back in the Golden Age of comics, from 1938 to the early 1950s and are definitely active throughout the other DC Comics today.
Jay Garrick is seen regularly within the current Flash comic. Black Canary is a founding memeber of the Birds of Prey team/title. The Hawks have their own book.
You never said which comic(s) you considered "weirdo", so I cannot comment on that without more details.

Alan Scott (who IS the original Green Lantern, the first one published) was based on Aladdin's magic lamp and magic ring with the genie in it. Back in the old days, his stories were so good! You have to understand that he is the original.

It was not until many years later, after WWII and the atom bomb and it was starting to look like space travel and moon landings might someday be possible, that they decided to revive the Green Lantern character, but this time as a science-fiction based hero, based on the Lensman series of E.E. (Doc) Smith. And that one was Hal Jordan.

The Justice Society is not weird, just old fashioned. But there is still a lot of good in it, and we can learn things from the past. Give it a try. You'll be glad you did.

Insufficient writing talent assigned to him. In my youth there was only Hal Jordan. But as an adult over 35, I kinda dig the Alan Scott character. The costume looks cool and in the golden age stories he liked to get it on with hand to hand combat as well as with the ring. If I coulda done the dc reboot, I'd probably made Alan Scott the only Green Lantern, but that wouldnt necisarily mean better comics for everyone. i never heard anyone say he was the greatest GL.

I disagree Hal Jordan is the best Green Lantern. He proved he is no Superman in Green Lantern Rebirth but still won beating his archnemesis Sinestro and the Parallax what corrupted him in the same day. Despite the disrespect and crap especially from Batman he shows that if the Super Villain will screw with him they better be able to finish the job because he refuse to quit grow fearful along with not giving up. He showed it against the Parallax despite trying to get him to give up quit and grow fearful he still persisted and won. I hope Hal Jordan regains his image. I am tired of people disrespecting him. Lets not forget I am sure John Stewart another Green Lantern served Lex Luthor in the new Superman Batman comic series. I would not doubt that Sinestro could team up with Lex Luthor but still lose to Hal Jordan the man and the second Green Lantern.

Who said he was the best, to my knowledge he was the first known Green Lantern of earth. Most people consider Hal Jordan to be the greatest of all but We know now that Kyle Rayner will someday surpass him.

By far the best G.L. and the JSA has been around in one form or another since World War II

Sometimes the best character goes with the adage of "LESS IS MORE"

And we really do not need another GL comic at the moment!

Who on earth is Alan Scott? I only know the original and John Stewart.

Not a lot of people know who he is... most people only know Kyle Rayner, John Stewart and, if you're lucky Hal Jordan (not as the Spectre) of the Green Laterns.
