from years of experience and wasted cash,i allways recommend the free route now,as they are just as good,in some cases better than the payed versions like norton and mcafee
probally the best free anti-virus is avast 4.7(http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html),this is my current scanner and i chose this because i installed it on a friends p.c (which previously ran norton) and it picked up 11 viruses that norton failed to locate..enough said
another free anti-virus program is avg(http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1),this is a very poular program, but dosent have the reliability of avast, however give it a try,all users have different tastes, and require different products
good luck

get norton packages. they are the best. it should have a firewall, antivirus, antispam and system works, but these dont ALL come in a pack so u have to but some seperate, but they work really great. ive used norton for at least five years.

Norton Antivirus is heavy n resource hungry on system SO CHO'SE if YOU HAVE ENOUGH RAM AND PROCESS'R.
But McAfee Is Better and Good and Efficient on systems. i suggest you buy this. better go for McAfee Security Suite which has integrated firewall, antivirus, privacy protection, mail protection and cost a little more.

Get Mcafe antivirus because they are really good. They offer constant updates and the program doesn't slow down your computer half as much as what the whole norton suite does.

Ewido antispywear. Better than AVG, finds for crap. Free to download from www.ewido.net/en/download but you will have to pay for the full package after 30days. plus if you update, you get the full package again for a fresh 30 days I use it, along with AVG.
so, get both, and get CCleaner from Download.com, which will remove all temp files etc off of your pc.
these are what the pros at pc world use!

Go to Comet.
They have a mispriced item:
Norton persoal firewall AND
Norton Works Suite together. BOTH 2006 and bacward compatible. The price is £24.99 for both.
They can cost upto £95.00 if bought separately.
Check their website first it's true.

as long as Norton plays well with your computer (most people find it messes with internet explorer, and people often find they have to restart because Norton is tieing everything up, and messing with the security features, making it so you cant do ANYTHING... as long as you arent experiencing any of these problems, norton is ideal, as long as you keep your updates regular, and do your scans, just as regular. i had to switch to EZ antivirus, but it came free with my high speed time warner service, all i had to do was download and install it, it works SO much better, i'm very glad i switched. besides, it doesnt get much better than free.
