I went through a similar situation in Colorado three years ago. Wife went a bit crazy going through the change and left. I finally went to the courthouse, got papers to file for uncontested divorce. I filled them out, included split of property per Colorado law. I was refered to a divorce lawyer, who charged me only $200.00 to go over my paperwork, made a few minor corrections, and then I filed it.Six months later it was over and finalized. Good luck.

Go to the local Family Court house. They should have docents there that offer legal advice free of charge on how to file & fill out all the paperwork, along with fee schedules, appearances, etc.

You could also contact the local branch of the BAR association. They have referral services - and most places offer a free consultation session.

Or, you're online - do a little searching. Open up a browser and type in: filing for divorce in Washington. See what pops up. You'd be surprised what you can find with just a little effort! In CA, EVERYTHING you need to know about legal issues can be found online these days!

One thing: if your wife has moved out of state, you will need to hire a server (also called a service agent). You can get referrals for these from the court docents as well. This person takes the divorce papers and hand-delivers them to her. This is a legal requirement in many if not all states. A typical fee is probably less than $100.

if you have no kids it should be easy. you'll have to go file at your county courthouse. You will need to know where she is though to get a notorized copy of her signature on one of the forms. In texas it costs about $150.
Go to google and type in "file divorce and your county or city name"
sometimes you can download the forms and print them off yourself.

good luck

I don't know if it is available there, but pre-paid legal is an awesome service. You have to call in and wait for an attorney to call you back, but it is cost effective and if you are persistent, you can win!
