Chinchillas

as far as pets go it is the chinchilla- too bad they are not very into cuddeling- but the softest fur I have ever stroked was Alaskan fur seal. Chinchilla are adorable rodents about the size of small rabbits- they have fur so thick that fleas cannot penetrate it (wish my dog had that) and even though they are said to have the softest fur I think fur seal feels softer it's shorter but softer.

Definitely the chinchilla. That's why millions of them are raised for fur coats every year but they make wonderful pets that live up to 18 years. Not suitable as pets for children under 10 because the legs are so fragile.

I would say the softest I have ever touched would be a chinchilla.
