Overall...Yes. Running a chronic deficit (through tax cuts for the rich) like the Repubs means pushing the debt into the future. Expanding entitlement programs like traditional Dems did...while raising taxes, another traditional Democratic approach, is a spend now-pay now policy.

However, Clinton was not a traditional Democrat having cut back on welfare.

He's right. I pay as I go in my own life and our gov't should too. The only reason unemployment is down is because yjou are no longer counted as unemployed when your benefits stop. Not an excuse, but, there are less people on welfare because they are locked up for commiting crimes and dying for lack of health care. Our schools are failing because they are underfunded whie the richest people are taking it to the bank.Didn't Congress just give 400billion more for the war?Who is going to pay for that? The nest 4 or 5 generations will.

No i do no longer believe Chris yet then I hardly do. Chris Matthews is an fool, why is West factor a wierd venue to talk approximately sending extra troops to war. this is basically Chris's idiotic way of asserting he disagrees with Obama's decision to deliver the troops yet he can no longer say something undesirable approximately Obama or he could lose his interest. The heads of MSNBC could probable freak if certainly one of their people criticized Obama.

Yes he hit the nail on the head. Ronnie Raygun left us a 5 trillion dollar debt that Bush I couldn't get out from under. Compared to the debt Bush Jr. is running up 5 trillion is pocket change.

Not really. FDR created the welfare state the way it is specifically so that we would always have a debt and therefore the Republicans couldn't get rid of it. That's the biggest inherited debt in the nation.

Blank statements like that are usually wrong. However, judging by the experience of the past 30 years that statement would appear to be accurate.

The fundamental problem is that both are spending money the country doesn't have and they don't seem to have a brain in their heads about it.

Matthews didn't need to try to explain it any further.

My favorite is the way Republicans talk tough on crime, but they will never raise taxes to pay for more cops or new prisons. How can you be tough on crime without raising taxes?

Absolutely true. They are wasting money. The only reason why Cinner doesn't believe it is because she is in step with the Republican fear machine...
