The most famous has to be Ramnujan. He lived at the beginning of 20th century, worked with famous British mathematician Hardy and died at an early age. Among the ones who are alive, I can think of Abhyankar who is a famous algebraic geometer but I would not be surprized if some people think there are others more famous.

Every mathematician in India are world famous for their great work in mathematics. World is very thankful to indian mathematicians for gifting them the number zero.
Bhaskara, Aryabhata and Ramanujam are to be named few, who have explored maths and explained it in simple language that everyone can understand. Rishi Munis have also contributed to maths by giving us Vedic Sutras for performing mental calculations.

There's also Chandrasekhar, although he might be considered a physicist more than a mathematician. Both, really. He's certainly famous enough.

If you're talking about contemporary mathematicians, I can count four at the top of my head:
Narendra Karmakar, now at TIFR formerly of UC Berkeley and AT&T Bell Labs. Read about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narendra_Karmarkar
Madhu Sudan, Professor, MIT, read about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madhu_Sudan
Rajiv Motwani, Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University, read here: http://theory.stanford.edu/~rajeev/
and,
Prabhakar Raghavan, Professor of Computer Science at Stanford and Head of Yahoo! Research at US, as you can find out here:
http://theory.stanford.edu/~pragh/
Is four sufficient?
