Ah, the memories. Hun, I think it'll probably be a while, considering you're only one cm dilated, but if you're 70% effaced, that doesn't really go together. Hmmmm. Okay. I would probably say you're more than one cm dilated if your contractions are very painful and your membranes have been stripped. Labor is different for everyone. I've only had one child, and my labor from start to finish took approximately 24 hours. That was from the initial break to the actual birth. The painful contractions for me started when I was in active labor, which is when you dilate the fastest, and that's usually between 3-7 cm. How far apart are they, I'm wondering? You are already in labor for sure, and are probably more dilated than you think. I would say give it another 12 hours or so, tops. That's only a guess, but the onset of full labor can be pretty sudden sometimes. Best wishes for a happy and healthy baby.

Hi again~ I would guess by this afternoon you may start labor. I was 37 weeks and 70% and 2 cm with my first baby then at the Dr's appt she stripped my membranes and I had a few contractions that day/evening and went to bed. I got up the next morning with this huge idea that I had to go shopping for the baby's going home outfit, went home fed the dog and let her out, then went to my brothers house about noon. My s-i-l looked at me and said I was in labor! I said "No, I'm not! I have a few pains that I have been having all night/morning but they don't hurt bad enough to be the real thing" about an hour later I was laying down with some really "bad" pains and another hour later on the way to the hospital. arrived at 3:30 pm and my son was born at 8 pm!
So you are very, very close! email me if you want to talk!
Good luck~ I'll bet your gonna be having that baby before the day/night is over! ;o)

hi, i had the same thing done to me. I started off having period pain pretty much constantly for a couple of weeks and then i got chekced and was 2 cms dilated, the mucus plug came out half a week later which was a friday. I had an appointment with the doctor on the next monday and they did the whole membrane thing aswell and i was in mega pain that night, just really bad period pain aching so much that i couldnt move and then started vomiting a cpl of times. The next day(afternoon) i was feeling pretty fine, so i got the airowalker out of the cupboard and went on that for about 20mins or so.. sat down for half an hour just readin a magazine, got up and my waters had broken so i went to the hospital a couple hours later after id got ready and my contractions started at Midnight.
Go for a half hour walk or something to get things moving along, probably wouldnt go any longer than that though incase your waters break. You could start labour anytime now, the sweeping of the membranes brings labour on. I think it was about a day and a half from having that done and my waters breaking then 5 hours onto that and contractions started.. Good luck hope it all goes welL!!!!

Unfortunately, you still might not go into labor. Stripping your membranes works about half the time. Some people contract for several hours, and then the contractions just sort of fizzle out. Some people get nothing. And a few go into labor.
As far as the mucous plug goes, it doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot. It can be three weeks before you go into labor, could be the next morning.
Your baby is really low, so I imagine you are plenty miserable. Don't worry. You won't be pregnant forever.

It could be a few days or hours, I'd say you're pretty close if you are having regular contractions and are shedding your mucus plug. Don't worry too much about how dialated you are right now, that can change once those contractions start coming on top of each other. When the dr. checked me at 37 wks I was 1 cm dialated that was on fri. That day I started shedding my mucus plug. The next I was having contractions very far apart so I thought it would be awhile, they say once it starts shedding it can be 1 day or weeks. I kept shedding everyday. On monday night I was feeling bad contractions every 1/2 hour. At 2 am tuesday morn I leaked fluid and had contractions every 2 min, at hospital they said I was only 2 cm and hadn't ruptured yet so I might have to go home, that was @ 3am and I had my son at 7 am. Hope fully it won't be too much longer!

I was 1cm dilated, 60% effaced, and -1 station and had my membranes stripped on Monday. I lost my mucus plug on Tuesday. I went into labor Thursday morning and had a baby by Thursday night.
It's different for everyone, but sounds like it's near!

I've had 6 kids and I walk around for weeks dilated and effaced! I have gotten up to 8cm dilated and 80% effaced and still I don't go into labor for severa days or even weeks. So being dilated and effaced doesn't really mean much.

After having four kids,it sounds like your in labor now. The mucous plug is nothing you can stay pregnant another week or two after losing that. It's just an indication that you're getting close. I hope you have a very easy labor.
