I got to tell you, I am a Democrat on some things I am very open to and others closed to. For example, the republican's are very closed to national health care, they say it will not work, do not need it. The democrats say it is needed to help those that need it. People like Rush Limball says why should I have to pay for it while people like Bob Graham says we do. I find it interesting that the people who are against national health care are republican?? It also seems funny to me that the tax cuts of the republicans plat form benefet the most wealthy people in the USA. The tax cuts does not do much for the middle and lower class people. Look at the judges and office people the republican party puts in. Look at the laws the republican party passes, (it benefits the wealthy not the middle or lower class or our country). Can anyone name one good thing that the republican party has done for the middle or lower class of our country?

The republicans decided to change the medicare, they said it would better serve our sr.s. It did not, all it did was create a share cost that if not met, made it so they cannot offord their med's`. I supported the war in Iraq, and if the UN cannot get them to comply, I will support action in Iran. I agree we cannot let them have nuc's. But at the same time, do we not still need to take care of our people here as well? I am not trying to bash the republicans, just a few thoughts. In my way of thinking, the democrats have always been for the middle and lower class and the republicans have always been for the high class, the most wealthy. Prove me wrong.

I do not hate rich people, I have friends that are rich and they do alot for people in need, even though they are rich, they are democrat and believe in alot of what I believe, not everythingg but alot. This is not about hate, or rich vs. poor, or about bashing, its about good morals, right from wrong. Did you know when Former President Reagen was in office he gave 100 billion to the chinese government just for public relations. If our country can offord to do that, we can offord to have national health care. Also, If we can mobilize the national gard to another country when a sunomie hit, (not sure on spelling) in three days, why did it take so long when Katrina hit New Orliens(not sure on spelling) I am saying it is not fair, Are you saying you hate poor people? No I do not think so, but at the same time if we do not question, how can it get better????

Alex, I do not hate the republicans, my mom is republican, god bless her she is confused. I can say this, when President Bush put the new medical care policy he made it so my mom cannot offord her medicen, and she is so republican that she only said, well it made it better for people 67 and older, well what about the people 62-67? You cannot go againts a whole party just because a president has bad judgement when it comes to women, he still had good economic policies. My mom argues he was riding on former President Bush sr. polices but she is wrong. My argument is this the middle and lower class need more tax breaks then the most wealthy. Now your turn, name some good the republicans have done for the middle and lower class people.

robbet03, donna-gary@s.., If you are middle class, or wealthy and have health insurance, I can see why you would say no to national health care. If you are poor, work to make it pay check to pay check, and do not have insurance, and get told by doctors that I consider money hungry, if you do not have insurance, we do not want to see you. How much more must I say, it is one sided, it make me feel that the republicans feel that as long as they have health care, the hell with those who do not. No one has said that out loud, but it is how it is. You do not believe me, try to get a doctor without insurance. Many people have to chose insurance and medican or food. This in a country that is supposed to be the richest in the world. If nothing else, a national insurance program. If we can offord to give billions to other countries, we can offord to help our own. I seems that the republican's work to make the rich- richer, and keep the poor- poor. pink9364, I agree with you

BeachBum, I agree with most of what you wrote. The only thing I do not agree with you on is if it will stop another 9-11, I think they should listen to who the terrorist are talking to, and I supported the war in Iraq eventhough it was on bad information, and I am afraid that north Korea and Iran will give a serious problem as well. Also, I think the work comp. laws are in favor of the business too much when it is supposed to be there for the worker. I also agree with the 2 year wel-fare deal except, there are people who cannot work due to health reasons and they should not be on the two year deal. My two cents worth anyway.

ThingOne76, I understand your feeling, I do help people, the best I can that is. I vote, I write my govenor, senator, and congress. I even write the president. I am one voice and without more people, as few as our voices are, nothing will be done. One of my favorite questions is, if you were president, what would you do? However, even you are in the minority

I am a far left liberal democrat. The main reason is because I am a constitutionalist.
Here is a more descriptive reason:
- I believe in war as a last resort or unless we or an ally have been attacked. IEs, Gulf War and Pearl Harbor
- I believe in UN support and if the UN is corrupt, instead of bailing on them, fix it.
- I believe we have a duty to pay our elderly social security because they paid those funds when they were working. That is like robbing them if we do not pay it back.
- I do not believe trickle down economics of Reagan, Bush Sr, and Bush Jr works. It never works. I believe in Clinton's economic system that is commonly referred to as Pay-As-You-Go.
- I believe in FDR's New Deal that the republican party has been trying to destroy piece by piece.
- I believe our social programs that keep families from living under bridges prevent us from becoming a 3rd world country.
- I believe in welfare but I also believe in Clinton's welfare reform where it is limited to 2 to 3 years in a lifetime. This prevents ppl from living on it their entire life; thereby, prevents welfare abuse.
- I believe in universal healthcare because a healthy nation is a powerful nation and also the pharmcy/insurance companies are corrupt.
- I believe in government regulation of monopolies such as power/energy, cable and telephone companies. Everytime the government deregulates these industries, they promise the price will go down but it never does... it always increases thereby increases the cost of living.
- I do not believe in making laws that violate constiutional rights... such as the Patriot Act or even seatbelt laws.
- I do not believe in making new laws everytime a problem arises; but rather, to fix the problem.
- I believe in gay marriage because gay ppl pay taxes too and heteorsexual couples should not be given special rights by the states just because they are straight. Otherwise take away those special rights and don't allow the state to recognize anyone's marriage.
- I believe in a woman's right to choose because just as the Supreme Court has ruled, a woman has a constitutional right to privacy over what happens to her body.
- I believe in the right to own a gun because it is a constitutional right.
- I believe in the constitution 110% and the liberties it allows each citizen.
- I am anti-illegal immigration because simply, they break the law by entering illegally.
- I believe in complete separation of church and state per the constitution and as interpreted by Thomas Jefferson who stated, "thus building a wall of separation between Church and State"
- I believe in SMALL GOVERNMENT in terms of big brother staying the hell out of my business. I've never participated in a census and refuse to. I am a LIBERAL and believe government has NO RIGHT to stick its nose in my business.

I'm a Republican for many reasons though I do not always agree. As for national health care though I most certainly do. I watched my Father in Law die in a hospital in England which has national health care. Before he died and we'd visit, it was gross. There were about twenty to thirty people in two rows opposite each other. Old blankets and tattered curtains. When it was time for lunch a lady came by with a cart and practically threw sandwiches on the bed. If there is no competition, it's like going to the DMV or the post office. Money is short and no one really cares.

Nationalized health care will not help the middle class. Nationalized health care helps no one. What happened when to many buericrats get involved in health care is you have to wait two years to see a specalist. By that point, the problem has either resolved itself, or killed you.
I tend to lean more towards the Democrats, but having family in Germany and seeing many people die because of the stupid healthcare system, I cannot support nationalized health care.

I am a Republican because I don't agree with the way Democrats want to give things to everybody. Like give unemployed people more money and make hardworking people's tax money go to lazy people who don't work and have no reason not to work. And can you tell me what they have done bad for middle class people?

I am neither and I will tell you why. It is not a cop-out or my own personal "exit strategy" to avoid conversations of political nature. So many people in this country rely on the government to make decisions for them...to take care of them...to keep them safe...to ENSURE they have all they need and improve their country and void themselves of any responsibility of doing work themselves. When this doesn't happen and people are slighted or things go wrong (because obviously we are dealing with a HUGE, stagnant bureaucracy)...they blame the government. This enrages me because these same people discuss (at length) what is wrong with this country blah blah blah and they don't do ANYTHING, don't lift one finger to take action themselves. You are so upset about the poor education system? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Get involved in your local school board, volunteer for a GED program, help someone that needs assistance with their education. You are so upset because of the poverty level and the rich reaping rewards? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Join Feed My People, get involved in your community and do outreach for impoverished people. The worst thing in my opinion is someone that is an arm-chair pundit...who criticizes and judges from their arm-chair and never gets off of it to DO SOMETHING.
If you are looking to a certain political party to solve all the problems in our country you are very disillusioned. EVERY politician has an "agenda." Aside from maybe 6 or 7 president's (that I can think of throughout HISTORY) how many have made a real, lasting impact on our country...FOR THE BETTER? Generally one party gets into office...pushes their agenda and puts their policy into place. Then the other party gets into office....pushes their agenda and reverses the previous administration's policy and puts theirs into place. This has a zero effect and maintains a status quo. If you want something done...and it makes you so angry to not see it being done...DO SOMETHING. Get involved. In the very basic sense you can vote, which is useless. Get involved in your community and don't be apathetic! If you feel the government is the way to implement change...get involved politically in your community!!
As for your argument on health care there are MANY resources for care that people just don't know about which is the true problem. The disenfranchised group in the health care bracket are generally people ages 22-35 who are single or parents. Children are covered via a Federal program called MC+ for Kids. You do not have to be impoverished to qualify for this program...the income ceiling on this program is $65K/year. It is hard for parents and single people to get insurance (either through private companies or Federal programs because of qualifications and the expense). There are sliding-fee scale health clinics in every state that are supposed to cover this need...but they rarely do because they are under-funded and subpar.
Theoretically and idealistically national health care sounds GREAT!!! The only problem I have with a national health care program is that the government will be running it!!! Take a look at our educational system...they run that so well I am waiting with baited breath for them to manage my health care as well!!! Just imagine how it would work for health care. Take a look at a state-run health clinic in your community...then come back and tell me about national health care. The education system is based on income levels. Children living in poor communities have substandard education because the tax base is so low. How would this grand and idealistic national health care be implemented and run?? It sounds so great to write about on Yahoo! Answers and to have everyone clamour to get instituted but if you take a look at it in detail and how it would work in the "real world" it would end up being a hell hole for people. It is NOT the answer. Ask a different question.
As for the tax issue with Bush (and all Republicans). Lower income people don't pay as much income tax as those with higher incomes. It is basic math. I made $9K last year because I volunteered for the Federal government and got $2200 back on my income tax!! The problem is that if you take the mandatory 30% income tax from someone making $30K a year...it hurts. If you take 30% income tax from someone making $200K a year...they still have a sustainable income. I don't have a problem with the tax cuts because the way our government is set-up is...if you succeed in this country you are going to be penalized for it through your pocketbook. In addition, every Tom, Dick and Jane are going to hate you for it. What we need is a FLAT TAX and government accountability in regards to spending. If you have a flat tax of 15-20% with NO write-offs things will work out across the board. It still isn't going to end poverty which is largely attributed to a lack of standard education which still is going to be horrible. The gap between rich and poor doesn't just include preferential tax treatment...it is a huge problem that needs people to become involved in...not just a random thought about how rich people get all the breaks and rants about how Republicans/Democrats suck. Do something, anything at all, except blabber on and on about how things SHOULD be and expect someone else to implement these changes while you sit back and critique them.
