It is called the Shipwreck of the Whaleship Essex, by Owen Chase.
It is the original 1821 narrative of the famed battle between a whale and a ship that inspired Herman Melville's Moby Dick.
(at least that's what it says on the cover)
I like the book and found it amazing that the whale took out the ship....

I only know of one book about a whaling ship sunk by a whale so I'm going to guess "moby dick"

the book "Moby Dick" is very loosely based upon the Nantucket whaling ship Essex, which foundered in 1820 after it was attacked by an 80-ton sperm whale 2,000 miles (3,700 km) from the western coast of South America.
