A Harley is definately the best! The resale value is excellent. We just upgraded and sold our old Harley for nearly what we had paid for it 5 years ago.

It all depends... If I spend more time riding in the city than on the highway, I'd take a Harley, or any one of the Japanese cruisers. These engines have more low end torque and comfortable riding positions which makes it easier to live with in stop and go traffic. If I spend more time traveling on highways at higher speeds, i would get a sporty bike with a fairing. With these bikes, they are more aerodynamic, unlike the cruisers, and allows the rider to hide from the wind and can easily catch up with traffic and also have power left in reserve to pass cars or for emergency use.
If it were my choice, i would just have both, but if i had to choose one, I would be happy with a Yamaha FZ6. =)

If you love motorcycles, you have to experince both inline 4 or V-twin. Just think of the sound of motorcycle. Just imagine, what's in your head right now is definately inline 4(typical sports bike) or V-twin(harley).
There are other kinds, Single cylinder, Inline 2, Inline 3(4stroke), inline 3(2stroke), V4, Inline 6, horizonally opposed 2, horizonally opposed 6, V-twin 2stroke, and V3 2stroke.
Generally, sports bikes are inline-4 and Harley/Ducati are V-twin. They are categorized as motorcycle but they are a lot different. Ducati and Harley does look different, but they are both V-twin. If you want to make Ducati sounds like Harley, then yes, you can. Because they are both V-twin.
So, is the Ducati only the V-twin sports bike?!?! NO. Ducati 999 is not that much better than 998 and they are both murdered by Suzuki TL1000R and Honda RC51.
Ducati is not that fast, though they look fast and fancy. Honda RC51 is now the king of v-twin sports, and will smoke Ducati.
For the fastest production bike is Suzuki GSX-R 1300 Hayabusa, or Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14. Of course, ZX-14 was born to kill Hayabusa, so, it is a bit faster. Anyway, they are both inline-4 engines and from show-room, it will make 186mph(governed), and with after market CDI, they are capablie to make 200+mph, and with turbo, they make about 500+bhp.
As you noticed, inline-4 engines are much faster, but V-twin engines are quicker at corner, if it makes sense to you.
V-twin engines makes more torque than inline-4, that means it lifts bike up quicker from leaning at the corner. Basically, it is easier to corner with V-twin than inline-4.
As for drag race, if you have inline 4, you can smoke v-twin no problem. You can smoke Ducati 999(1000cc V-twin) with a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R(600cc Inline 4).
I like Harleys, but I own Kawasaki Ninja ZX-11 and inlove with her. I have to wait until I become in 30s to own Harley. Harley does not look good with me yet and yet I appriciate it.

Really you need both, one for high speed fun, and the other for picking up chicks.
FYI Hayabusa is no longer biggest and best, KING KAWASAKI is back with a 1400cc Sport bike .

I'll take my Harley. I enjoy cruising down the road. But any bike is cool, have fun and be safe.
