Do the Mentos in a bottle of Coke thing. Buy some Mentos, and a 2 liter bottle of Coca Cola, and drop the whole package in the bottle of coke and stand back. Then explain how the chemical reaction works. Great for a science project.
(Uh, you have to open the packet of Mentos first)

Get a medium-sized bowl, small birthday candle, matches, a 32 oz jar and some water.

Heat the bottom of the candle and stick it to the middle of the bowl. Put some water in the bowl - about an inch high or so. Light the candle, tilt the jar to allow water to come inside*, and place the jar over it. Watch the water level rise within the jar and the candle go out.

Explain why the candle goes out (flame consumed all the oxygen) and why the water rose (to fill the vacuum), and that the amount of water above the bowl's water line represents the approximate mass of the oxygen inside the jar.

*You need to tilt the jar as you place it over the candle or else the air in the jar will keep the water from coming inside to fill it to the water line.

Last year when I was in 8th grade, my problem was "Which laundry detergent works best on grass stains: Tide, Tide with bleach, or Oxyclean?"

It's not THAT special, but it's not too hard to do, has interesting results, and should be easy for you to have a cloth with grass stains on it since you play football.
