All people have the ability, and even a tendency, to be very bad. Rules and traditions keep us grounded and set boundaries; otherwise we'd all be like the so-called "movie stars" who seem to always lose their way, running from partner to partner, wallowing in wealth and decadence, hoping to find "happiness".
These people seem to have no respect for rules or traditions.
Certain expectations from parents to children to grandchildren can cause a child to walk a certain line until he is old enough and wise enough to make good choices. It's just like having a good lifeboat in the middle of the ocean. We are all in deep troubled waters, all our lives; pray for a good lifeboat.

The rules and traditions have kept our countries alive for thousands of years. Without them, who knows what the world would be.

To avoid anarchy. A culture has to start somewhere and past experience is usually the foundation. If the idea for change is a good one and valid for all, then it will change, but not over night. It means that it seems to take forever for a good idea to be implemented, and maybe there is enough time to avoid implementing a bad idea because it is popular at the moment.

You want, maybe, we should reinvent the wheel every generation, too?
We follow traditions because they work for us. When we feel that we are too restricted by them, we invent new ones. Sometimes the new ones work better , sometimes they don't. It used to be traditional to assault men who used foul language in front of women. Tow it's traditional for women to use foul language Which tradition would you judge to be better?

We follow the rules because we haven't changed them yet.
Actually, we have changed many of them, because we aren't following the same traditions as they did. At least, some people have updated their beliefs to the 21st century.

You want to make the same mistakes Ally Oop made or do you want to learn from history? Read your bible, nothing is new except the manifestation, we are the same people stumbling over the same crap, if you can learn from someone not to touch a hot stove, do it, or not. Free will baby!

Good question!
As time accumulates, human knowledge and sophistication increases. This creates higher behavioral requirements for us all.
Those who refuse to leave behind primitive ways of behavior are clingning to these outdated, irrelevant tomes because it is easier to meet the social and moral requirements of a primitive age than to step up and be a full human today.

To thine ownself be true
Wait your turn
Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you.
It is better to give than receive
Look both ways before you cross the road
Share with your friends
