I'd go with the rest of the answers. It's really not great. Houses are very expensive, it's too hot. It never cools down as it is a concrete jungle. Traffic is bad. Arizona in all grew, and is still growing at such a tremendous rate that the developers can't keep up. So there is absolutely no character left in southern AZ. From Phoenix south, there's nothing special. Tucson is a wee bit better, but with our growth, the character is diminishing in lieu of housing developments.
Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place to visit. For maybe a week to get out of the cold, but no one could pay me enough to move here again.
We're moving out of state because the schools are awful, the crime is way high (in Tucson, but more so in Phoenix), it is too hot, there is no character, water is quickly running out, and you can't touch a decent home for under $350,000 (in Tucson, more in Phoenix).

I loved Phoenix AZ! I only moved to WA to be with my JHS Sweetheart, and so we could get married, but we will either go back to Phoenix, or L.A. in 3-4 years.
Yes, real estate has sky rocketed, yes there is pollution, but Phoenix and the "Metro" area have a lot to offer, not to mention incredible things to see and do all over the state!
Southern AZ has a feel all it's own, that you won't find anywhere else, you will either LOVE it or HATE it, there really isn't a middle of the road I don't think ;)

What a bunch of whiners! Phoenix is great!!!!! It may get hot a couple of months a year but for the other ten it is wonderful! I love that we have 60+ degrees in the winter. I love the dry heat in the summer all you need is a swimming pool and you are good to go. If you like the snow, it's only an hour up north. We have lots of great places to go and great resturants. Life is good here in Phoenix....

I've only lived her for a few yrs and I love it here. I moved here from Chicago. No snow is one of the things I won't mess, the traffic isnt that bad to me but I guess it depends on how you commute back and forth to work and what freeways you take. I love the view out here, the mountains, the clear skies. Yes, it gets hot in the summer but thats only for 4-5 months out of 12. The rest of the year has perfect temps only getting really cold in the morning. There are plenty of jobs here and plenty of options as far as finding somewhere to live. Yes, the real estate market is rising and you'll find yourself paying a lot of money nowadays but thats ideal in most place. I do not take public transportation here but compared to other cities I have been to it sucks. The city is in the process of building a train system so that will improve your chances of getting around the city. All in all, I love it here.

i'd have to agree with happymommy
i've lived in the valley for 20+ years now and i'm getting to where i hate it!! it's so hot here-even in the winter. there is no season change and no color changes in the trees (you're lucky to have grass that's green in your yard!!)
real estate right now is ridiculous-for a 1700 square foot expect to pay a minimum of 250,000 and that's for one that is about 20-30 years old. brand new-try 500,000 and up.
traffic is bad anywhere you go-especially the freeways-and the way phoenix and the surrounding areas are set up-the freeway is really the only way to get from one city to another or across town-it's terrible. and there is always construction going on-add that to the already congested lanes on the freeway and your 30 min trip to work has just turned into 1.5 hours!!
pollution is bad too. i work on the 10th floor of a hospital in downtown phoenix and you can see the dirt hovering in the air. i have asthma and in the past five years, it has gotten worse-i take medication for it everyday.
my boyfriend's family lives in illinois and i've been back there at least 3 times now and i love it there-i'll take 95% humidity over the crap we have here!! plus it was so green too!!
sorry to sound so bitter but this is really how it is here-and it's just going to get worse

It's a crappy place to live. The traffic is horrendous and the heat is unbearable in the summer. It used to be relatively inexpensive to live there - no more!!! Pollution there is very bad as well.
Try Tuscon.
I live in Las Vegas and the heat is quite high here as well. Last year we had 117 straight days when the temp never dropped below 100 degrees F. That includes night time. This year has been cooler.

I live in Glendale. When my relatives come to visit they don't want to leave. Yes, we have hot summers, but we don't have snow in the winter which is real nice. I hate the bad drivers out here. Other than that its an awesome place to live.

I trust above with one exception. The suburbs of l. a. are fairly priced to stay in and return and forth in case you artwork in l. a.. besides the fact that the whole Southern California section has many roles. you do no longer ought to artwork in l. a..
