I just see all the unsolved murders, and think it would help the victims relatives to at least know this much. (Closure)

How about I write it down, keep it securely in a safe deposit box and let them discover it once I've departed?

The right thing to do would be to tell someone about it. That way you would kind of eliminate the sin and guilt from your soul, lowering your chances in going to hell ( if you are religious ). If not then don't worry about it. You never know, you may actually survive and spend your second chance at life, in prison!

Well before I died. I would feel too guilty to hide it. Unless it was insured and didn't hurt anyone, then never.
