Stephenie Meyer has a great series. The first two are Twilight and New Moon.

Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. (Uglies, Pretties, Specials)

Looking for Alaska by John Green

Rash by Pete Hautman. (Also Invisible by Pete Hautman)

Sarah Dessen is also good if and only if you like a bit of romance.

It really depends on if you like realistic fiction (set in high school teens dealing with bullies, self-esteem, the opposite sex, friendship, family problems, and maybe dealing with drugs and alcohol) or if you like adventure, fantasy, science fiction or another genre.

Find something you're interested in...and then you won't have any trouble finding a 'good' book.

If you haven't tried these authers:

Mary Higgins Clark (thrillers, fast reads and no bad language)
Stephen King (horror, excellent, but not for the faint of heart, or for easily language-offended people)
Agatha Christie (the queen of mysteries!)
Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte (both classic female writers. Need more concentration, but beautiful writing)
Nicholas Sparks (great romances)
Meg Cabot (funny teenage fiction)
Douglas Adams (hilarious science fiction, very absurd)
Michael Crichton (great thrillers, often very scientific)

Another great way to find new books is by reading the books movies are based on. Just look in the credits at the beginning of your favourite movies, and you'll see "based on the novel/book by____". Usually books are much better than movies, and I've discovered many great authors this way.

Hope I helped!

First you must figure out what you enjoy reading: fiction, non-fiction, biographies, history, sci-fiction, etc.

Once you are aware of the genre you prefer, it would be much more easier to stick to a book. After that you can go to nytimes.com recommenations for what everyone is reading and start from there. It is a matter of time before you would be giving out recommendations.

Rhapsody by Elizabeth Haydon if you're into fantasy. Plus other well known and excellant fantasy authors are Terry Brooks, Terry Goodkind, Robert Jordan, David Eddings, and Anne McCaffery. If you just want fiction then go for Anne Rice.
