Piggies don't mind being held on your arm with their bottom resting in your hand, or on a towel on your lap, but they don't like to be handled like a kitty or a puppy. Long haired piggies like Peruvians take a lot of special care. sometimes when their hair becomes long it makes their skin sore. I don't show mine so I keep their hair trimmed to about an inch long.

Guinea pigs are not generally nippy unless they've been mishandled by someone. They will occasionally nibble if you have something tasty on your hands but not to the point of hurting. Be patient. Try holding the pig in your lap and stroking it softly daily and offer a food treat. Keep children and strangers away from it for awhile and the pig should get calmer.

Rough handling by children can make a guinea pig nippy. Gentle and frequent handling, fresh treats whenever you pick her up, and keeping her cage in a quiet place may bring her around but there are no guarantees.

Guinea pigs rarely bite unless they are in pain. One of the most common reasons for guinea pigs biting are mites, which are microscopic little bugs that burrow under the skin. It is a very common parasite in guinea pigs. They can make handling and petting very painful for your little friend. Good news is that it is a very easy and cheap condition to treat. See the link below for more info.

Some guinea pigs will bite till they get used to you, I have four guinea pigs.
Two of them are short haired , and two are long haired and some of them have real long hair, They remind you of a mop their hair is so long ..ha ha.
Just keep petting your guinea pig alot, and hand feeding him some, and as he gets used to you more, he'll stop nipping so much. :)
