$250 seems like a lot now, but I personally believe you get what you pay for. That seems like a very small amount to pay for making you a better rider and possibly saving your life. I like to think my life is worth over $250. Another thing to take into consideration that if the course keeps you from dropping your bike even once its paid for itself. The cost of a set of turn signals and a case cover is over that amount.
There is one possible option that we have in Idaho and you may have there but I am not sure is the STAR course offered by the DMV and sponsored by area cycle retailers, the cost of that is $75 and it is a wonderful course.

Well $250 might seem like a lot of money, but it really isn't. ESPECIALLY if it's for an MSF course. That is the best thing any rider can do. You're parents are wise for enforcing it.
I retake the advanced course every 3 years to keep my skills honed.
Just save up for a few weeks and get a job if you don't have one. You got the $2K from somewhere...another $250 should be easy to find.

The price you stated for the training is absolutly rediculous, people in Washington state are getting ripped off. In Ohio is only $25.00 and that includes the road test. Do a search for motorcycle riders education course. I got my licence that way. The class teaches alot that I did,t know, BUT I WOULD NOT START OUT ON A SPORT BIKE< and if you do take all the plastic off. I've never wrecked but have lost my footing on wet black top, and fell over, start off with something really cheap, my first was a 400.00 bike(never mattered if I dropped it). It was a cx500 custom Honda. I do have a custom 99 katana now, which I have to be extra carefull with, because it is a show bike. It would be catastrofic if I dropped it. I've had my licence for 4 yrs now, I'm looking for a bike right now for my brother, and it's really hard to find one without road rash or broken plastic. If you are absolutly sure about a sport bike, get one with frame sliders, and extened bar ends to help protect the plastics.

If you think that is too much for a rider's course, just wait until you see what your monthly insurance rate will be for your age. That 250 bucks for a course is going to save you money in the form of slightly lower insurance premiums.

Learn to ride it yourself, without knowing how to do it, and save all that precious money for your insurance copayments if you actually survive your idiocy.
Perhaps you will have enough left over to buy a WAAAAHmburger and french CRIES! If two-fifty is too much for you, wait till you see how much motorcycle insurance is for a 17 yr old! I guarantee that a training course will pay for itself many times over in lower premiums, Junior.

$250 is the best money you'll ever spend..go through a MSF course and pay attention
I went through one when I was 18(after riding for a year)with people that had been riding for over 10 years, and everyone learned something
