The nurse should be positioned on the involved side (right in this case). If the patient needs support or loses balance, this is the best side to provide it from. The cane should be in the patients left hand.

at the right-side toward back of shoulder beside right arm holding armpit with right arm around .shoulder and upper arm extremity!
