I will be able to drive in less than a year, and I want to know whats a good NEW car to start with. I never accept hand-me-downs. Price isnt a problem because my parents got plenty of money. Im thinking about a baby blue Volkswagen Beetle. Any suggestions?

I'd reconsider your stance on used cars, with the right choice you'll stand out with more individuality and self confidence than if you just chose an expensive off the rack car.

I had the perfect first car, a 1979 MG Midget. Girls went NUTS for it, it incredibly fun to drive and very easy to work on so I was able to learn the basics of car care. It also forced me to be a great driver because it was smaller than just about anything short of a motorcycle. Because of its size my MG taught me to be continually aware of everything around my while I was driving, a habit that I've carried with me years later.

Do some research and find a car that says something about you and not your parents' bank account. I can afford any new car I want now but I drive a red 1963 Astin Martin DB4 GT because it suits my personality. Don't a snob about new cars.

i hope for your sake that your parents make you purchase your own car, with your own money. if everything is given to you you probably wont respect either the gift or the gift giver. neither will you have a realistic view on life when you are on your own.
however if they purchase say a 1972 super beetle as a project car, perhaps you and your father can work on it together a real bond can form from this. i bought a car for my daughter when she was six, together we have turned it into a nice looking reliable car that really handles is comfortable and is no slouch on a autocross course [she is now a second year university student]we are able to talk and respect each other as adults and best of all as friends.

a 1974 Olds 98 4 dr.is a great kid car.
Why? Safety! They are dependable, weigh 6,000 lbs, 10 MPG, so big that when it hits something, it will only hurt what it hits. It's like having big pillows on the front of the car.
Also, lots of room for your friends.
They are expensive to drive cause most all these big beasts get
10 mpg and have been crunched up as scrap for the U.S.steel in them. Also, hard to find, which adds to the appeal.

You say money is no object, but in fact it should be. Your starter car should be one you can afford to maintain. Volkswagen's are a pretty good car as you can even rebuild the carburetor and put it back together backwards and have it run.

You say you never accept hand me downs, but in fact, you expect someone else to pay for your ride. That is charity. I would rather buy myself a good used car that I can maintain on my own than accept a new vehicle that someone else has to pay for.

The lessons you will learn from taking care of yourself and your own wheels, buying your own insurance, gas and maintaining the vehicle yourself will prepare you for the time when you need to leave the nest.

Used is not a bad thing, expecting handouts and charity is detrimental to your character.

i've got restored my seventy one porsche 911, my 1934 rolls-royce 20-25, and a few different imprecise vehicles, yet once you decide on low-fee and good and rapid, choose for an previous beetle, i've got rally raced them for some years and it relatively is nice being waiting to take an engine out in 30 minutes, artwork on it, purchase any area on ebay, and stuff it back in a count number of hours. and if it explodes, eh, there are so a lot extra obtainable.

Cars are personal. Get whatever makes you happy. I bought a mustang convertible for my GF and she loves it. I have a Lotus Esprit Turbo and love that. If you want new get the new Lotus Elise.
You have to remember where you live and what you use it for are the most important.

Good luck!

Something front or 4 wheel drive, 4 cylinder, non turbo, something pretty common so when you dent it learning to park you can pick up a second hand door easily.
