My daughter is a ninth grader. She did a project that she made up called popping popcorn. it was very fun and scientific at the same time. The procedure was that she had soaked 10 unpopped popcorn kernels in water for 20 minutes then she put them in a brown paper bag and microwaved them for two or 21/2 minutes to see how many popped. Then she did the same thing except she used dry kernels thatshe did not soak. Then you see if more wet kernels or dry kernels popped. Each time she did the experiment more wet kernels popped. This is because popcorn kernels have water inside of them when mixed with heat makes it pop, so adding more water makes more popcorn kernels pop. It is a yummy, fun and scientific experiment and she won a prize for it. The conclusion is that more wet kernels popped so water does affect how many popcorn kernels pop.
