Fig trees usually come up around the big parent plants. I have friends who give away several plants each year. The "babies" go one to have fruit. If figs grow in your part of the country, look for someone who has a tree and ask for a plant when they come up in the late summer and early fall. If you can't find a parent plant, then question if they grow in your area.

Get a branch from a fig tree and plant it. Guaranteed to work for sure. It will be a few years until you see a fig.

you can start one from a cutting. Fig trees grow well so if you can find one growing in your area, the owner is sure to let you take a few cuttings. Most garden lovers would be pleased to share their plants.

Are you sure that fig trees will survive in your climate? Maybe that's the reason local nurseries don't carry them? Ask!

Don't look... ask. Go to your favorite nursery and tell them what you want. They'll order what you ask for. I've never had a nursery tell me no.
