Yes. Your T-1 line should connect by way of the Network Interface Card (the thing with the flashing lights). The NIC is usually integrated with the motherboard. You only need the 56K modem if you plan on getting a dial-up internet connection.

You 'will' be able to connect the the internet without the modem.

The T1 line is a high speed internet connection to your computer. This gives you access to the internet. I'm not exactly sure what the connector for T1 looks like, but it will either plug into your computer directly, or it will plug into a router box (and then the router box plugs into your computer.)

A modem is used to connect a phone line to your computer. You can get to the internet by using the modem to 'call' an internet provider.

The T1 internet connection is far preferred over the 56K modem.

The data/fax/modem option could be of consideration if there is some use for faxing (via PC faxing.)

You want both an ethernet jack RJ45 and a phone jack (56k modem) RJ11.

You can live without a phone jack if you have wireless. Most colleges, coffee shops, hotels, airports etc now have wireless.

I HIGHLY recommend adding wireless as well. And, you might want bluetooth if you're into PDA/cell phone PDA/wireless mouse/keyboards.

So, in conclusion. An ideal setup includes ethernet RJ45, phone modem RJ11, wireless, bluetooth.

By the way, I have cable and I never use the phone modem, but I got it just in case I need it (which will probably be never).

How do you connect your PC to the Internet?Dial up modem?LAN Ethernet?I doubt you would need any T1 to connect to the Internet unless you got money to burn.

If you have a T1 you don't need a 56K modem -- that's for regular dialup over phone lines.

56K modems are for dial up, what you need is a 10Base-T Ethernet network interface card (NIC) card for Ethernet connection
