I think he was what America is all about. He was someone that had a great idea and vigorously went after it and changed the way America shops. I wish he were still around because I don't like the direction of Wal-Mart nearly as much now. It seems Sam wanted to make a lot of money and now Wal-Mart just wants to take everyone's money and drive all of the small guys out of business.

Well honestly i think Sam Walton was a great entrepreneur and business man. His intentions truly were to sell products at the lowest price to the customer. He became rich and successful off of this approach. Everything that is happening with Wal-Mart now is not because of Sam Walton, but because of its current owners.

Years ago, I read his book. I really admired him. He lived the American Dream, if the dream is to become successful and wealthy. I don't expect he had much time to "go fishin". I loved the way he promoted American Made products. I think the whole big conglomerate has lost its way, now, though. They keep expanding into areas that should be left for the "mom & pop" operations. To me, they appear to be out of control and literally bulldozing over everything, because they are hungry for still more.

If they wanted to be righteous, they could pay their employees some of that incredible profit. I sometimes wonder if such people actually think they can buy their way into Heaven.

I don't know first hand what Sam Walton was like, but I read he was a pretty good guy and remained down to earth. I have also read that he passed his wealth down to his children, billions and billions, and the kids have only donated 2% of their wealth to charity. Thats what I read, but you can't believe everything you read.
