You know, there just isn't a one-size-fits-all answer to this question.

There are studies that have shown that antidepressants are not good for children in the womb, for lots of reasons.

But if your girlfriend's mental health WITHOUT Zoloft is such that she contemplates hurting herself or others, obviously that's a far higher risk than any hypothetical harm that could come from a drug exposure.

And there are a bunch of scenarios in between those two.

Your girlfriend's doctors need to put their heads together and evaluate her individual situation and risk factors, and advise her what to do.

At 9 weeks, hopefully they've already done that?

You more desirable proper verify with the clinical specialist. Any drug can impression being pregnant that is why maximum drugs are not from now on counseled throughout the time of that aspect. besides the undeniable fact that it truly is not because a drug is time-honored to be risky, yet truly that it hasn't been safely examined to insure that's threat-free. being pregnant comes with some mightly mood swings for basically about all women persons, and preventing the zoloft chilly turkey may be devasting even in a non-pregnant female so the answer to this question might want to come from her clinical specialist. Realistically this appears like a really, very undesirable time for her to think about dealing with with this being pregnant. She's already being treated for melancholy, so she isn't properly sufficient to be a strong mom. New little ones are not straightforward and annoying and if she's already depressed, that's in all probability it receives worse after start. Do you shop in ideas the female in Houston that drowned all 5 of her little ones? it truly is what submit-partum melancholy can do. that's amazingly risky. upload to that, both of you're not from now on even in a strong marriage, it is an further stress. you also do not state your a lengthy time period, yet i'm guessing you're fantastically youthful. Are your funds strong sufficient to have sufficient money to really have a baby? little ones are truly, truly severe priced and prices can truly exceed $10K the first 365 days. Daycare for newborns can run $2 hundred per week or more desirable (counting on the position you're) and except you're incomes sufficient to totally help a stay at homestead mom, she will want to artwork. operating with small little ones is difficult (in spite of the reality that obviously plenty people do it) So...i'm suggesting that you DO verify at the same time with her clinical specialist about the drugs, and probably a therapist to get to the muse of her themes. i'm also suggesting that urging her to proceed to be pregnant may represent cruel and unusual punishment for her, and for the toddler. little ones deserve moms and dads who're emotionally wholesome and residing strong sufficient lives to provide properly for them. or you compromise its odds at residing a wholesome and satisfied existence.

Any sort of drug like that is not good for the baby. If she can get by without using it she should. No one is really sure what the side effects of taking those drugs are, but I do know that if a pregnant woman is on a stronger psychiatic drug than Zoloft they recommend not taking it during pregnancy. I would assume this would also apply to your situation.

I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV. And I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.

But I will tell you this based on common sense. ANYTHING that alters ones state of consciousness, e.g., pot, alcohol, pills of any kind, carries with it potential dangers to the fetus.

I took prozac (albeit a small dosage) when I was pregnant. I think the rule of thumb is no drugs for the first ten weeks of pregnancy. I could be wrong, it's been a long time. (My daughter is healthy.)
