HOW come instant messager works but my internet explorer will not?

Question

My little sisters computer will let you talk to ppl but will not let you surf the internet. when you try to connect to the internet you get the page cannot be displayed message. I checked everything that i can think of but i know the internet is connected just not internet explorer. HELP

it is not a slow connection. i have dsl with a wireless router. i checked the ip and it is a good ip because the rest of the house's computers work fine.

This sounds like a dns setting problem. Not knowing what o/s or type of nic, I can only suggest you check the network tcp/ip settings. Usually you want an assigned DNS server that gives you the DNS server address as well as assigning the computer an IP address.
It could also be a firewall problem if you have one installed.

Have you checked your DNS settings? Open Network Connections, right click your connection and then click Properties. Double click Internet Protocol and look at the lower box. It should have "Use the following DNS server addresses" selected, with IP addresses. Your ISP can tell you what the addresses are.

Will she be abe to sign onto her account from yuour computer? If not maybe her account no longer exists for some reason.
