I would like to say that there are many factors that could make a person be this way. For example, being shy, deep in thought, abuse, analytical, or in my case I stutter. I am a bit shy at first, but sometimes it is because I have nothing to say, or am thinking of what to say. Other times I am being observational, and analytical. I find a bunch of people mistake me being quiet as being stuck up. Some of my friends have referred to me as Silent Bob, (no I don't smoke any more), but the name is very fitting to give you an idea of my personality. Way to often people make snap decisions based on misconceptions, and don't get me wrong there are times where snap decisions are good. Just not often when it comes to people.

For pretty much my whole life, I've been a quiet guy, not shy though. And other quiet people have always gravitated towards me. Through that, I found that most quiet people are actually pretty reflective and imaginative. They don't talk as much as other people because they don't need or want the attention, or they may not think what is on their minds will be understood by others. Perhaps that's why they seek out other quiet people like myself to express themselves to. I also find that quiet people are much quicker to open up in a one on one conversation and like to skip small talk. So if you really want to find out what makes quiet people tick, get them alone, talk to them and lend an empathetic ear. They'll usually have something interesting to say.

I was always a quiet person when I was uncomfortable, so I assume that they are uncomfortable. I usually try to include them in conversations so they feel a little more at ease. Sometimes, outgoing people can make other people feel a little out of place, so that is probably why they act quiet. Or maybe they don't feel good or have nothing to say. You don't really know unless you ask them.

I'm usually quiet, but it's because I know people will not pay any attention to what I say because all they will see is short, skinny white girl.
I only speak if I've got something important to say, but I usually just don't. I like to write, so that's where all my thoughts go. Sometimes quiet people are just smart people who weren't listened to enough at some point in their lives, so they think that people don't want to listen.

I'm not sure, because usually I'm that quiet person. Sometimes it's because I have nothing to say and value and enjoy the silence, just being with people. Or I could be daydreaming about something really absorbing, or just contemplating a feeling (yeah, that's a hobby in my mind). Occasionally it's because I'm so angry it's passed beyond words, but you can tell that because my face becomes rigid....

If that is the first time I'm with a quiet person, that is typical.
If they are really quiet, that's the way they are just like those who are not. Individual differences.

I believe quietness is just a part of an individual's personality, and it's something they are born with. It's probably just as valid of a question to ask, "what makes someone else loud?"

Actually, some people are just naturally inclined to be more reserved, depending on your past. This does not mean they are bad people, or really "unpopular", but they are quiet because that is how they choose to observe the world.

I'm not shy, but I'm quiet. I don't really know what makes me like that though, sometimes I'd much rather be daydreaming or listening to music then paying attention to those around me.

They've learned the value of thinking before speaking-- watching and learning--- and when they speak?..Usually what they say is worth listening to because it's well thought out.
Of course there are some dumb quiet people too. You just never know until they open their mouths.
