Some say it is infifnity. My friend has come up with a proof saying zero by zero is equal to any number. I need a clear answer.

It's undefined. You can't divide by zero.

If we could divide by zero, then 0/0 would have to, by defintion, equal both 0 and 1, since 0 times any number (including 1/0) is 0, but any number divided by itself is 1. Since one number divided by another must be unique, then 0 and 1 would have to be equal. This violates one of the field axioms that define the number set in which we do basic arithmetic like division, so division couldn't exist at all if 0=1. Therefore we can't divide by 0.

Sorry about the lack of elegance at that proof. I could do better when I learned that last year, but I only remember the general concept now.

0/0 is math error.
no number can be divided by zero because zero is a number that can't divide any other number.
example
if we say divide 20 by 2. then the numer 2 splits 20 in to two equal numbers that are 10 and 10.
if we say divide 30 by 3. then it means the same that split 30 into 3 equal numbers that are 10,10 and 10
suppose if there is 20 divide by 1 then the answer remains the same which is 20
but if there is a question that divide 20 by 0. it means that split the number 20 into zero equal number. can u do it?
it does't give any kind of sense.
thats why 0/0 doesn't give any kind of sense too.
it is undefined.

but u can divide 0 by other numbers such as
0/20=0 (divide zero into twenty equal numbers) 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,and 0 if we again combine all these zeros the answer will be zero

You simply can't divide by zero so stop trying.
It'll just mess up your mind.

If we say the answer is 1 - i.e. zero goes into zero one time (sounds logical, eh?), hence the answer must be one.
However, if we try to prove this, then zero times 1 must be 1 - and that just ain't so.

If we say it's infinite, the same proof falls flat on its face because zero times any number is obviously zero.

Your friend's "proof" is bogus.

Again, you CANNOT divide by zero - period.

impossible to answer because you are diving any number to a value that has nothing. Basic illustration is that if you have 30 blocks to put into 10 rows, then each row has 3 blocks. Now if you have to put these boxes into 0 rows, it's impossible because you can't do it.

It's not infinity as well because the reciprocal of an infinte number is 0.

Those smart people that understand and write about math have said that 0/0 is undefined. The same way that 1/1 is 1. Because the people who decide those things said it.

Hai Do u know indefinite number.This 0/0 also comes under this category.It means there is no solution for this.0^0 also like this.

In computer there is a seperate consideration for this numbers while write a program.

Zero is Zero even when divided by Zero. or multiplied by Zero. Zero has no square route, and you're friend is an idiot.

division by zero is not 'accepted' and 0/0 I think is indeterminate just by the sheer fact that a zero denominator renders the whole expression void...

There is a law in division: any number divided by zero is undefined. That's it: zero divided by zero is undefined.

Well, if you think about it logically, zero goes into zero one time. But you can't divide nothing into parts. So it is not possible. In math, this is "undefined" solution.
