I'm 34 weeks I started contracting in the doctors office, first they were 10 mins apart, then 7 mins apart. The prenatal doctor checked me and I was 2 centimeters dialated. I was sent to the hospitial. but they didn't tell a thing!! I stayed over nite and was put on this pill brethrine, and will be taken off this pill at 36 weeks.
Also when I came home from the hospitial I had this string of mucus come from my vagina and it's still mucusy but not as much very little. WHAT IS IT???

WHAT IS THE MUCUS PLUG??
Also since all this happened is it possible after they take me off the medication (which is in 2 weeks!) will this mean I can hold off giving birth until October 20th?

They have you on the brethine to prevent preterm labor. If you start contracting again, you need to go back to the hospital to be monitored. Your doctor probably put you on bedrest? If you think you are contracting, you should call the hospital where you are going to deliver. They can answer your questions, and they will also be able to contact a physician.

The mucous plug is just thick mucous that is inside the cervix. You can lose your mucous plug several weeks before you go into labor. It doesn't always mean birth is imminent.

Breast leakage is very very normal at this stage of pregnancy. Sometimes even sooner.

It's definitely possible that you can still have your baby in October. Lots of women who have preterm labor ultimately are induced.

You should call your doctor tomorrow and tell him or her that you are uncertain about what's going on and that you have a lot of questions that you need answered. A good doctor won't mind.

The mucus plug is what keeps your cervix closed. This is one of the signs that you will give birth soon. I discharged mine less then 12 hours before I gave birth last time. However, it doesn't sound like this is the situation for you. The mucus plug will be bloody. I think this must be your first pregnancy. At the end there is always a lot of discharge. Many women wear pantyliners because of it. This is just your body lubing you up so that you'll be nice and stretchy when the time comes to push the baby out.

Sounds like you are losing your mucus plug. Also I agree with previous poster the docs have stopped your labor. And it is for the best. Any days closer to at least 37 weeks that you can get is best for your baby!! Trust me!

My son was born at 37 weeks to the day and was in the NICU for 2 days because he couldn't maintain his blood sugar levels or body tempurature. Basically was acting like a premie.

So be sure to follow docs orders and take the brethine till 36 weeks its for the best! The side effects from the pills are horrid but worth it for your baby!

Sounds like your mucus plug. It just means that your body is preparing for the birth of your baby. If your doc put you on meds to stop your labor, try not to worry too much. I lost my plug two weeks before I delivered. To be safe, call your doc and tell him or her. Take it easy, stay off of your feet! Good luck. :)

Your baby is like mine... ready to be born! I had to take Terbutaline though, until 37 weeks.
Just be careful with the med. It stays built up in your system. When I got my show I went right to the hospital, even though my water hadn't broke yet. I slept through the whole night, never felt a contraction. By morning I was 5 1/2 centimeters, and I didn't feel one contraction until they broke my water.

Hey, you DID call your obstetrician and tell them about the mucus that came out of you after you got home from the hospital, right? If not, give them a call...that may have been your mucous plug and / or bloody show...you need to let them know about that!

you lost your mucus plug - you don't want to have your baby too early because of lung development - just hang in there for a few more weeks and ask questions if you don't understand

Sounds to me like you are starting labor but they are stopping it. You should call you doc and demand some answers, its your body and your child.

Take it easy, hun - relax, dont do a lot, kinda like mini-bed rest. You need to get to 36 weeks!
