You wanna know the truth son? Lord I'll tell you the truth, old metal is better.
There would be no metal without Ronnie James Dio and Black Sabbath. Sabbath, Judas Priest, RJD, Iron Maiden, they have a good sound, good vocals, good lyrics, good guitar, drums, etc. Lamb of God, Slipknot, etc. have arguably good sound, and are generally harder sounding, but they fall short of old metal in skill and rocking. Nine times out of ten with the new metal that I hear, they just scream into a mic and thrash a little on a guitar. If for no other reason, old school metal is better because you can actually understand what the **** they are saying. No new metal guitarist today can come close to comparing to Yngwie Malmsteen either. Just look at Metalica, the old stuff rocks, but the new stuff doesn't. Pantera alone is better than the new stuff.
I do like some, but not much, of the new metal, it just doesn't compare to the old.

There are some great new metal (but not "nu metal") bands out there, like Iced Earth, Children of Bodom, Opeth etc. There were some great "old"metal bands too--some of whom are still around.
The problem is that people just remember the classic bands from the late 70's and 80's and forget some of the absolute godawful crud that was around then (quick, anyone remember Diamond Rexx? Anyone? Didn't think so) so we tend to romanticize the old days. In 10 years from now a lot of the crappier new metal bands will be forgotten too, and people will just remember the good bands like Katatonia and Opeth and Lacuna Coil.

That's like saying "What came first the chicken or the egg?" any answer you give can be countered by the latter. Without old metal, where would new metal be? But new metal has advanced so much since the 80's and 90's. SO it's really a question of opinion. I vote new metal for quality but old metal for originality

in the beginning, that youngster does not be attentive to what the sturdy metallic bands are in this decade. He desperately needs to look up the bands Firewind, eternal Tears of Sorrow, Nevermore, Arsis, and Kataklysm. those bands have some extreme expertise!!! Slipknot and Korn are mainstream rubbish and are not my cup of tea. Secondiley, i do no longer likely evaluate bands like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Aerosmith, and Van Halen as metallic bands. they have extra of a capability on at present's contemporary rock. subsequently, those bands which you indexed are seen classic rock in my opinion. The older form metallic bands would be bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Obituary, dying, and Slayer. You get the photograph. on a similar time as I do exactly like the countless older metallic bands. i'm actual extra prepared on at present's crop. I mean, at present you have a sturdy determination of Melodic dying metallic and capability metallic bands. those are 2 great genres of metallic. it relatively is in basic terms my opinion, yet once you're searching for a extra different style in metallic, then at present's metallic scene is an more advantageous fit for you. additionally, enable me say that there are a number of great bands that hail from eu international locations in recent times. American metallic isn't as sturdy because it substitute into till now. international locations consisting of Finland, Sweden, German, England, and Norway have ruled the globe with its metallic track from the previous 15 years. it extremely is the place the sturdy track is at these days. Oh and enable me call off my well-known metallic bands to you back, in case you have an pastime in what i think of feels like sturdy metallic these days... Firewind eternal Tears of Sorrow Eluveitie Isis Nevermore Amorphis Kataklysm Opeth Arsis darkish Tranquillity In Flames Sabaton

i like the good ones from both "generations". i think that the older stuff is looked upon as better because it is all awesome. but of course it had to be awesome to still be around and bought 20/30 years later. think of all the crap bands that give new music a bad name, but will be forgotten in 5 years, only the good stuff survives.
