1-Harry Potter is not bad
2-No it should not be banned from school Libraries.
3-I think that censorship is one of the first steps to terrible things like Hitler's Germany and genocide.
4-Other books, that is a hard one, it depends on the age. I think the if its school sexual content should be avoided, because you don't know what has or has not been taught yet.
5-I don't know what the Giver is so I can't comment.
Lastly I think most people who want to ban the Potter series have not actually read the books. And if it is a religious thing then send your kids to a religious school.

I don't think that Harry Potter is bad at all. And, I think it would be a terrible shame if it were to be banned from schools. I think it is a very entertaining series that is full of positive messages. The magic in the books are clearly works of fiction and do not promote witchcraft as a religion (Wicca) as some people that haven't read them would have you believe. So, I don't see any legitimate reasons for people to object to them. As someone that has had a lifelong love of reading, I am thrilled that Harry Potter has encouraged so many people to make the time to read. It is a wonderful thing! I'm sorry, but I'm not familiar with the Giver, but I'll check it out.

I don't think they are bad at all. Not all Christians want to ban Harry Potter. In fact, there are quite a few who are advocating that the books are good, and should be read as literature, rather than banned!
In general, banning books is a bad idea. As soon as that starts happening, every book that offends someone in some way will get banned, and before we know it, freedom of the press will be a joke. Any parents that are concerned about what their kids are reading should be sitting down with their kids and talking about what they read, rather than fighting in the courts to have this or that book banned. Parents talking with kids...a radical idea that will go a lot further than a court case!
If you are a Christian, concerned with what Harry Potter is all about, here is a good website that addresses the magic and book banning issues that surround the books. It is very well-written, and I highly recommend that you read it!

I'm not a parent, but I don't understand the controversy over Harry Potter. Witchcraft is not real; it is a part of mythology like the stork who brings babies and the Tooth Fairy. It's harmless.
I think the books actually teach good values, but they get progressively darker, which might not be appropriate for young kids.

Rowling is pretty good for kids books. But why don't more people graduate to adult fantasy ficiton by authors like Raymond Feist, David Eddings, Stepehn Donaldson, even Tolkein. There's a whole genre out there with stuff that is great - being adult, good guys do sometimes die (Except for Eddings, who can't kill characters).

They are fiction...and that is fine! Besides, good always beats evil, and it even has a moral to each book.. I am a Christian and have no problem with the book, actually like them too.
