A dula, as I understand it helps coach a pregnant mom when she is delivering her baby.

A doula can be awesome, especially if you are nervous about child birth or have a husband who is kinda jumpy about the whole thing. I had a difficult labor and a C-Section with my first child. When I got pregnant with my 2nd I was terrified. I hired a doula and it was the best thing ever. She was able to keep me calm and help me do my breathing and suggested things like showers and massage. She was amazing. I wish I would/ve had a doula the 1st time around

Thats exactly what a doula is. they aren't necessarily trained professionals - anyone can be a doula if they just learn proper coaching techniques. my sister's best friend was her doula, and she was fabulous during the births of her two kids. they offer support, help the woman out, keep her comfortable, help motivate her...a very good thing to have.

That's exactly what a doula does. They don't assist in the actual delivery, or provide medical care. They're like professional coaches.

A doula is a coach / cheer leader / focal point / voice of reason. EVERY woman should have someone who fills this role - be it one assigned by the hospital, a personal coach, a family member or the spouse/partner.
