At glcorps.org which is the site for the Green Lantern Corps, there is a section of fan art and fan fiction, some of which I thougt was quite good.
If you are not familiar with the Green Lantern Corps, they are basically a group of intergalactic police, saving lives and stopping crime all over the universe under the guidance of the immortal Guardians on the planet Oa. They wear powerful talismans in the shape of emerald rings which respond to their imagination and will power, and can do nearly anything. They are recharged from green lantern-shaped batteries, which are in turn recharged from the Central Power Battery of Oa.
The Green Lantern of Earth, Hal Jordan, saw his home town destroyed by an intergalactic criminal, and millions were killed. He went insane after that, and tried to raise the dead, which was something his Power Ring could not accomplish. So he disobeyed orders and went to Oa, killing any other Green Lantern along the way who tried to stop him, and destroyed the Central Power Battery and absorbed all its power, but still could not raise the dead. He was not punished for his crimes, because, on his return to Earth, the planet was threatened by a menace that he died trying to stop.
I always felt sorry for him, and some of the fan stories dealt with him maturely refusing to give in to the temptation, or that it was an enemy manipulating his mind to cause him to be disgraced, or that it was an imposter, or that the Corps survived and the Ring was passed on to someone who was more worthy... there were a number of stories of this type. The whole series of events was so depressing, it was a relief to see that some others felt as I did; that a character we admired so much should not turn out to be a villain after all.

It's a yaoi, but i doesn't have a hint of lime on it (don't worry. Although I don't really fancy yaoi it really is heart-warming. It's a tennis no ohjisama fic it's entitled "Beyond the horizon" on fanfiction.net.

well, the fanfictions i have read are from the works of watase yuu, creator of fushigi yuugi(curious play), ayashi no ceres...try er other works and go to fanfiction.net for more of her works like - alice 19th...
