Get some education, get some insight into yourselves, get some religion which hopefully would result in your adoption of kindness toward all mankind, and then consider, carefully consider, whether your needs would be best satisfied by a child, a butler or a puppy.

I don't have any advice for my parents. They were and still are wonderful, devoted parents. What I love most about them was that they always encouraged me to do my best and reach for the stars, always knowing that no matter what, they were there to catch me if I fell.

listen more, and try being involved in MY world--->my interests, my feelings, my questions and insecurities from my point of view...i think every kid just wants to feel understood and accepted.and i think most parents don't really know their kids...being open allows kids the opportunity to feel validated which in turn opens them up more.less being judgemental more on the level, not slacking and not trying to be my "friend" but just offering a been there point of view without being preachy. kids actually listen to that stuff if you don't make them feel dumb in the process....oh yeah and guitar lessons lots of guitar lessons in a do-over....
