I need to get my chinchilla (NOT A DOG, A CHINCHILLA) looked at by our vet tomorrow, because I think he might have a problem with the growth of his teeth. They will probably do a head x-ray, and I have some money but not alot... I just want to know what to expect. I take him to the banfield in petsmart here in fort worth - a regular exam costs $33.00.

Don't know what the price will be. But I can tell you Banfield is EXPENSIVE. Used to work at petsmart and even with employee discount they were far more expensice than other vets in the area..

First, go see a vet. You may not need an x-ray for that at all.

Second, if you DO need an x-ray (if a vet tells you that), call around to different veterinarians and ask for the price. You'll find an assortment of prices and if money is a concern you can go with the 'lowest bid'.

But I'd be really surprised if you end up needing an x-ray for that, go see a vet and see what he or she says.

My x-rays were $60 each. So for an animal, I'd expect the cost to be half or a third of that ($20 to $30) each.

Call and ask too BEFORE you are billed for it.
