Not sure about the donation part, but I think taking a bad situation and turning it into something good is very mature and thoughtful.

I think it is a great idea! Last year I broke up with my fiance of 12 years, and instead of crying on the day we were to be married, I had a HUGE party with my friends on the day I was to be married. Why be sad on that day, celebrate your life and freedom with your friends.
