My whole family suffers from insomenia, my self included. But I discovered recently that if I eat a little piece of chocolate just after I wake up (dark works best) that I fall back asleep almost imediately. Any one know why?

Eating chocolate stimulates the release of endorphins, the feel-good chemical.

Chocolate is also said to contain Tryptophan, the chemical in turkey that makes you sleepy after a Thanksgiving dinner!

Tryptophan is a pre-cursor to seratonin.

It just makes you feel GOOD when you eat chocolate. :)

Not sure why. I'm with you, though. If I wake up during the night, it's difficult for me to go back to sleep without my chocolate "fix", too. I always thought it was because I drink soda during the day and my body was craving the caffeine.
