Latrice is accurate in her definition. However, her editorial comment tagged on the end is a bit strident and shows an ignorance of literary history. Famous writers of fiction, drama and poetry who are also admired as some of the world's best critics include:

Aristophenes
William Shakespeare
Tolstoy
James Joyce
D.H. Lawrence
Tom Stoppard

Yes, pseudo-intellectuals often hide behind esoteric rhetoric. But good literary criticism makes for better writers.

It's an evaluation or analysis or (broadly speaking) criticism on any literary work or genre. A book review, for example.

Simply put: it takes a deeper look at the literature than any book review could. It analyses themes and contradictions, the purpose of the author in writing it....I'm not sure how often it's done today, but it was done a lot in the last few centuries.

Doing the same thing a movie critic does but with a book. Evaluating for plot, pacing, character development, etc.

Literary criticism is the study, discussion, evaluation, and interpretation of literature. (This is largely done by people who fancy themselves as intellectuals, but are incapable of writing literary works themselves.)

it's when you read a book, and criticize the author about things heput in the story. maybe the ending sucked, or stuff like that, so you just say what he did or didnt do right.

Garwy has a hard heart. You almost achieved poetry two or three times. "I see the miracle of a growing, learning child, On the landscape of my life I once thought baron." does not suck. You shoot too high in the beginning. Look for simpler words to say what you mean.
